သို့ပင် အခြား network switches တွင်လည်း managed fiber switch က fiber optic cables ကို သုံးပါတယ်။ မဟုတ်နဲ့ ဒီ switch က superior management၊ operational နှင့် configuration capabilities တွေဖြင့် ဆိုလိုတာပါ။ VLANs (Virtual Local Area Networks) ထဲမှာ partitioning၊ QoS (Quality of Service) control၊ port security နှင့် အခြားများစွာ security features တွေရှိပါတယ်။ Telecommunication networks၊ enterprise networks နှင့် data centers မှာ voice-data communications တွင် managed fiber switches က VLAN နှင့် QoS support ကို ပေးနိုင်ပြီး optimal data traffic အတွက် အခြေခံအရာတွေကို ပေးပါတယ်။ အများအားဖြင့် managed fiber switches က large amounts of data traffic ကို ကိုင်တွယ်ရန်အတွက် သုံးပါတယ်။ အדီမင်istrator တွေက network ရဲ့ အခြေအနေတွေ၊ ဒေတာအမျိုးအစားတွေနှင့် သာမက network ရဲ့ performance level အရေအတွက် ဒီ switches တွေကို configure လို့ရပါတယ်။
